People? Why Are You So Angry?

Updated on December 11, 2015

As Usual...Let's Start With The T.V.

Ok, pick a channel...

The husband is mad at his wife. The wife is mad at her husband. The kids are mad at their parents...

EVERYBODY'S MAD AT EVERYBODY!

No family unity. There's practically no family shows at all!

Except when the kids are the "stars" of the show and the parents are acting like jerks.

In my bio, I mention that I've been a singer - songwriter for over 45 years. I wrote a song one time that said - "why can't life be like how it's portrayed on TV? Happy times for all, people laughing and loving all."

Well, you know what? I wrote that about 20 years ago. I now take that back. Because TV - SUCKS!

And life as we know it today? Hmmm...

Well, this afternoon at Church I looked around and what did I see? Families! Oh my God, who would ever think such a thing!

Families - yes, it's worth repeating! Parents with their children! Now, I know that I am not visible in their houses 24 / 7, but this , at least, is a start! Yes, I also know that where I live is just a little tiny corner of the world.

So, TV should be - more like - real life! Unreal.

And TV? Give me a break.

Listen, I guess when I was growing up, I might've thought this was cool. Now I think it's just stupid. Oh, I forgot, the women are in charge. I should've known by their uniforms.

I have a question. Well, actually 3...

1) Who the hell writes this stuff?

2) Who the hell produces this stuff?

3) What makes them think that we would be interested in this stuff?

Anyway...

So, lets flip the channels, shall we? Lets see, we've got what looks like a war movie and they're fighting aliens. Ok so far, kind of.

They've got the guys in some kind of heavy duty protective gear - a military jacket with a bullet proof vest, helmets with night vision, machine guns of some sort, a utility belt with all kinds of extra fire power, rugged boots with spikes on the bottom to deal with the rugged terrain - the works !

Then they show the women. What are they wearing? (I'm so tired of this.)

Their pants are about 5" below the belly button and they're wearing half of a shirt - with their chest sticking out and of course, the leather boots.

Ok, so let's keep surfing the channels....

Ok...judging from the look on their faces, they must've been watching something on "LifeTime," you know, the one (of many shows seen on this channel) where the big bad husband is tired of coming home to the completely innocent housewife that spends her whole day cooking, cleaning and starts beating her or has an affair with the babysitter. Big mistake, mostly anti - men programming ...

Skip Sci Fi channel...that was the war movie I described earlier. ( I hate the way they changed the spelling!)

Disney? Don't even get me started. All kiddie movies worrying about their first kiss at the big dance, who they're going with, who is wearing the shortest skirt - mind you, they're all around 10 to 15 and who is acting like a jerk, more so than the other kids on the show. And then, there is the canned laughter - trying to convince our children that it really is cool - to be stupid.

Other channels? I can't believe that there are so many of these "anti" reality shows! They call them reality shows but they are the furthest thing from it!

"Trashy MTV Reality Shows Primarily Use Women to Trash Women, Study Shows " No, Really?

The so called "women" that are on these things...they are all bitching and moaning at each other, calling each other names. Complaining that one back stabs the other, while the one that is pretending to be her best friend can't stand her - maybe because her boob job turned out better than hers or she tried to seduce her husband but he turned her down. UNREAL.

Let's keep going... ABC Family Channel - the New Family! Really? Hey, do you want your daughter to look like that?

Ok, where do I start?

How about, Aria Montgomery, the former "punk" one of the group who moves back to Rosewood with her family after a year long absence in Iceland. At a bar, she meets Ezra Fitz and kisses him. On her first day of school, she discovers he is her English teacher. They decide to continue their relationship in secret. Later in the series Ezra tells Aria's parents that he loves her, he also gets a job at Hollis College which he is later fired when the school board finds out about the relationship.

Or, Hanna Marin, the Queen Bee of Rosewood High who later reunites with her former best friends. Towards the end of season 1 she meets a phone hacker, Caleb, who is new and flirts with her. She starts to flirt back and ends up losing her virginity to him. (Sorry to hear that. Definitely going to lose sleep over this one...)

How about Emily...who was closest to Alison before her disappearance. She was in love with her former best friend, Ali, and was outed as a lesbian by "A" in Season 1. Emily falls in love with a girl named Maya St. Germain, and Maya lives in Alison's old house. When Emily's mom finds out that Maya smokes she tells Maya's parents and they ship her away to the North Rehab School. During that time she dates a girl called Paige who hates her at first she then breaks up with Emily for a guy.

Such problems. I just feel so horrible for these kids. They are kids right? They're supposed to be in High School?

Funny, when I went to High School, we focused on what career we were choosing and what college we were going to attend. Of course we had our fun, drinking, smoking funny stuff and yes, even some of us having sex. But nothing like today man.

By the way, when they do the make up for these "girls" does the studio get a discount because obviously they must buy it - by the pound! These kids wear more makeup then some of the hookers I've seen in NYC. They say that this is all to make them look "SEXY."

Ok, if you have half of a brain, let's look at this a little bit closer...You wear less clothes to look "sexy". Wearing less clothes, gives ANYBODY ideas - right? Well duh. Next thing you know you're 16 and pregnant. Hey, Sounds like an idea for a T.V. Show!

Wait, they already have that! Sick world gang.

You know what ABC Family, the New Family? Where it's ok to have 2 mothers or 2 fathers? Keep it. Not interested. I'll stick with the "old family."

================================================

So, what do you say we take a look at the video games our children are watching...

"Given the fact that video games are able to have several positive effects, it should come as no surprise that they also can have negative effects. Research has documented negative effects of video games on children's physical health, including obesity, video-induced seizures, and postural, muscular and skeletal disorders, such as tendinitis, nerve compression, and carpal tunnel syndrome. However, these effects are not likely to occur for most children. The research to date suggests that parents should be most concerned about two things: the amount of time that children play, and the content of the games that they play.

Simply put, the amount of time spent playing video games has a negative correlation with academic performance. Playing violent games has a positive correlation with antisocial and aggressive behavior (most researchers define violence in games as when the player can intentionally harm other characters in the game). Content analyses show that a majority of games contain some violence. A majority of 4th to 8th grade children prefer violent games.

Looking across the dozens of studies that have now been conducted on violent video games, there appear to be five major effects. Playing violent games leads to increased physiological arousal, increased aggressive thoughts, increased aggressive feelings, increased aggressive behaviors, and decreased prosocial helping."

Bottom line, these games are desensitizing our kids brains. It's teaching then that it's ok to kill, mame, decapitate, etc. Why do you think there are children killing others in their High Schools! Funny, when I was in High School, I remember being interested in only girls and music.

So, you guys...wana be happy?

Take 2 hugs and call me in the morning. Seriously? Talk to each other! Early on, when the kids were around 2, 5 & 6 - I'd come home from work and would find them in front of the T.V.

After giving everyone hugs and kisses, I would turn of the idiot box, as my dad would call it, "order them to the dining room table" where we would proceed to draw pictures and color in their coloring books. We'd also play board games, card games - anything. Yes, later I would build a "fort" by taking one of the kids blankets off the bed and drape it over 4 chairs and watch a video together - huddled in the fort.

It's not easy being happy, you need to work at it. Sounds funny but it's true. Even if you have a bad day at work, you need to find it in your heart.

One time I came home - had a really bad day! All I wanted to do was kill somebody! Figuratively speaking of course. As I walked through the front door, my youngest daughter ran up to me gave me a hug and said "daddy, I love you, you're my best friend!"

How did I react? I reacted the way every other dad would react...I fell to my knees, hugged and kissed my daughter and cried like a baby*
